Hypnosis Skits With Drug or Alcohol Themes

Time and again I see other stage hypnotists using skits with a drug or alcohol theme such as a hypno joint or water that is supposed to be alcohol, in my opinion this is absolutely wrong. As stage hypnotists we are supposed to take care of our volunteers in every single way we can. We are supposed to be trained to do so. You may be asking, when an alcohol or drug theme is used what is the harm?
The harm is you never know about your volunteers past, if they are a recovering drug addict or alcoholic and you give them the best “drug” or “alcohol” they have ever had, this experience feels real to them and could undo any previous therapy or treatment that they have had. Is this experience guaranteed to undo all treatment … no…but is it worth the risk of possibly screwing up some ones life for a few laughs, NO! If the hypnotist was to undo past therapy, it is unlikely they would ever find out about what they did. I have personally chatted with a lady who’s past therapy was undone by a stage hypnotist’s stupid and uncaring stunt. The bottom line is simply this….We are supposed to be professionals and take the best care of our volunteers as possible, if we leave them with a negative experience from our show, a stage hypnotist shows thier lack of skill, training and morality.

Daryl Hannah Arrested in Pipeline Protest

There are times in this world that I seem to find that some people just don’t get it. Actress Daryl Hannah was arrested protesting a pipeline that would have Canadian raw crude pumped thru the US down to the gulf coast. She states that would lock Americans in, dependant on fossil fuels for generations to come. Will this pipeline be destructive to build, maybe, should it be stopped, maybe… what I find so hypocritical is… where was she when US soldiers were dying in the Middle East all these many years? Was all this conflict about oil? Sure it was. I do not see the USA invading Somalia to stop the pirates and help that country establish a better, stable system of government. (not alot of oil there)

I would like to ask Daryl Hannah what she does to stop being dependant on fossil fuels, did she fly or drive a gas powered car to the event or did she take public transportation or did she ride a bike there? I find it odd that we can be silent when our brothers and sisters are dying in a war for oil and many are silent but when we do look for a solution where no one has to die and we make sure we have a planet to live on for future generations we do NOT find a way to make it work. She was just saying “NO” instead of finding a better solution. Maybe this is just her way of getting some free publicity, to be in the spot light again. Start protesting those sneaky Canadians and their dirty but bloodless oil.

Your hypnosis show was an absolutely hit! I think you were amazing. US Debt Crisis – View of a Common Man

I rarely write about non hypnosis things but this issue screams at me to write about it. :)

I have recently been looking at the USA’s financial woes. It is a scary thing. 14+ trillion in debt which costs 40% of thier income to service aka pay the interest. They just borrowed 2 trillion more to get them by for a year or so…so by the start of 2013 the debt will be 16 trillion. They will not balance thier budget for 8-10 years. Lets assume in 2021 it is balanced, meanwhile to balance it and accumulated interest in that time, their national debt will be about 5 trillion more, so 21 trillion. That would mean to service their debt it will take about 60% of their revenue to do it.

I see only three solutions and all either really tough or really scary.

My personal choice…

1) The USA has to cut spending and raise taxes but that will not be enough. They have to start manufacturing their own goods and stop relying on foreign imports, this will create more jobs than it will lose and it will be sustainable. They will only allow foreign raw materials and a few things they cannot make themselves, the rest, huge import taxes on. If they do this they also have to devalue their dollar to make their goods less expensive in other markets therefore more attractive to foreign buyers.

2) Devalue their dollar to such an extreme that thier debt is not worth the money its printed on, they may have to sell things, like Alaska and Hawaii.

3) This I hope does not happen but if history teaches us anything, is that it repeats itself.  GO TO WAR with your foreign debters. If you win, debt forgiven, if you lose your enemies may help to rebuild you..maybe. This is a worry some  scenario for all Canadians, we generally view the US an ally and friend but if the US puts themselves so deep in a corner, they may roll their military into Canada and have at our plentiful natural resourses. I doubt the rest of the world would do much except trade embargoes and sanctions.

This is how I see it, it goes from bad to worse. The silly thing about some of the US debt, which was spent for securing future oil reserves in the middle east, is they could of traded with Canada for our tar sands oil, spend twice the going rate per barrel, the excess money going to clean the water needed to proccess the tar sands(and anything else that got dirty) save piles of money and not lost one human life thru war and violence. But that would mean they would want our “dirty” oil….oil not dirtied by blood.

Adventures With Airport Security

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of flying out from Kelowna BC. It was a very early flight to Vancouver and I was the only person at the screening area. I walked thru the scanner and “beep”. I was told it was the nails in my leather cowboy boots that had set the scanner off. No problem, I removed the boots, walked out then back thru the scanner but when I walked thru the scanner the second time, I went thru backwards. It did not beep. The security guy was fine until his boss, and older lady who just wanted to show everyone she had some power around the airport. She ordered him to get me to walk thru the scanner again but I had to do it forwards. Of course when I went thru it did not beep, she got her jollies showing she had so much power. What difference would it make walking forward or backward thru it? Does it confuse the machine if some one walks backwards thru it? Must be…the moral is… we are all safe due to the fact I walked thru the scanner a second time forward. Thanks to that supervisor for keeping Canada safe from backward walking people.

Asking Me for Advise

Today on facebook I ran into something different. I had a gent from Indiana ask me about stage hypnosis and routines. I asked him if he had any stage hypnosis training, which at first he ignored, and when pressed, then answered very vaguely. On his facebook page he had a youtube channel listed and a website, both do not exist. He also says he teaches hypnosis to people but for some reason cannot afford $40.00 a year to keep a website up. Needless to say I ended the conversation. To everyone out there I am happy to chat with you on facebook about hypnosis and stage hypnosis but if you come across as a so called expert but have nothing to back it up please do not waste my time that I could of spent answering questions from decent honest people. Self Help Gurus

Today there seems to be alot of self help gurus, but how does one choose which guru’s advise to follow? I believe it is very simple and the answer is not of my own making but from the late great Napoleon Hill, I loosely quote… “a philosopher must first make thier philosophy work successfully on themselves before it is given to others. It must be tested and proven to work.”
If the self help guru did not make themselves a success with thier own philosophy, before they started teaching it, beware, maybe they only way they are a success is selling thier philosophy to others whether it works or not. I think anyone looking for a self help philosophy should seek out those who were highly successful in thier field of endevours using thier philosophy, BEFORE they promoted themselves as a self help guru. To the buyer..beware.

Chicago, City of Wet Snow

I came back last night from the windy city..aka Chicago. The snow from the big storm that hit last Wednesday had been cleared from the major streets but on few residential side streets. It is all heavy wet snow :( The big advantage is it is already melting but that does mean alot of puddles to jump over. I had a fun time in Chicago and I want to reccomend a couple places to experience there in the downtown core. Piazano’s Italian Restaurant with great deep dish pizza and Garretts Popcorn shop for incredible caramel corn. Go see the Art Institute and the Field Museum, both are worth the price of admission.
It is too bad I did not have alot more time to spend but the trip to Chicago was for business, my daughter was applying to attend some US art schools :)

One of My Pet Peeve’s of Show Volunteers

I love performing stage hypnosis, that is why it is my full time living :)
I have one big pet peeve when it comes to the occasional volunteers that I get up on stage, here is what happens. Before the show a person will approach me and say “I have tried to be hypnotized many times but it never works” My response is always the same “When you volunteer, follow my instructions and it is very likely to happen” So now they volunteer, do ok on the tests but then half way thru the induction they open thier eyes and say “this isn’t working” So much for following my instuctions of keeping thier eyes close and no talking  :(

Empowering Young Women Today? Nada

Recently there has been a number of female vocalists who have released songs of so called empowerment for thier female fans, Pink, Lady Gaga, Beyonce..ect.. A Lady Gaga quote”…there is nothing trendy about ‘Born This Way.’ ‘Born This Way’ is a spirit, and it is this connection that we all share.” Lets cut all the marketing BS, all these vocalists are there to SELL product, they are doing so in the name of empowering women, my question is empowering them to do what? A specific question with a very vague answer. The only equivelent I can think that comes close is to get people pumped up to a job but not tell them what the job is. Great,….. young women all over the world who can afford to buy the artists music or go to thier concerts maybe empowered…… I think a true person of empowerment lives by thier own code and sets an example to be followed by others..people such as Jesus Christ, Dr. Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa or Helen Keller empowered and gave a direction which people could follow. Where are all these artists directing these young ladies of today? I have no clue…I doubt these artist do either. I think empowerment without direction is like rights without responsibility, useless!!

Dieting works but a lifestyle change is better :)

How many times have you heard people saying “diets don’t work” or “I have been on every diet and have had no results”? Is it not a miracle that some of these people get the stomach stapling/banding surgery and wala, they lose excess pounds.,…why? One reason…THEY CANNOT CHEAT!! The reason the other diets failed was due to the fact they could and did cheat! It is always better to change your lifestyle permanently than make a temporary change. Hypnosis can help but there is some self discipline required. It is not a matter of “snap my finger and you are thinner” It took you many months or years to become as heavy as you are now, do you seriously think you can get rid of alot of it in weeks? Dream on! Slow and steady will win the race. So change to a healthier lifestyle, get more exercise, just like doctors have been saying for years. it’s boring but it WORKS!!

Hints for High School After Grad Organizers

Soon it will be grad season, heck still a month and half until Christmas and I am talking high school grad season. To all the grad planners out there, book your event early to ensure you get a entertainer that will show your kids a great night of laughs and memories for many years to come. There are a few things you as a grad planner should look for in a stage hypnotist. These are in no particular order, but I numbered them any ways :)

1) References, does the stage hypnotist have any that you can contact without his/her help?
2) Liability insurance. Hypnosis is not dangerous but it is good to have your entertainer covered with thier own insurance. My way of thinking is no insurance no show. At least 1 million or more of coverage.
3) Does the performer have an online schedule? Do you want to hire a person who barely works? Or some one who is busy doing many shows?
4) Does the stage hypnotist say they do comedy but have no training in it? Did they do standup or improv comedy? I did and does it ever enhance my ability to be funnier on stage.
5) What price do they charge? Cheaper is not always better. I have top of the line equipment in my show. I show up with over $10,000 worth of equipment at a show. The equipment helps to have the best show possible. Do you think if I charged $500 for a show that I could afford to put on such a nice show? No.
6) Does the perfomer have a website? Does it look professional? Are the photo’s 8-10 years old as well as the references?
7) What special events has the perform show his or her talents at? I have headlined in Las Vegas in one of the rooms that does weekly stage hypnosis shows, in the Riviera Hotel.
8) Are there pictures on the performers website of thier show and people having fun in it? If not, you should ask that peformer why.

I hope these points will help you, as a aftergrad planner pick the best entertainer possible for your event. Call me if you need any other tips or maybe you just want to book me :) 1 877 988 5830

Stephen Hawking Missing The Big Picture

Recentley Stephen Hawking, the physicist, stated that man has to colonize space before the earth’s resources are depleted. I know he has completely missed the “boat” on this issue. If man is to survive as a species we have to learn to live within the means of our resources. If we just use up the earth and move on, we as a species are not much better than a parasite. It is sad that such a smart man has lost sight of the big picture with a band aid solution to our problem. Do I know how the solution is to be found? no. I do know it HAS to be found. As a species we have to learn two things…..to live within our means and to learn to live with one another. The last goal was the purpose of the most influential man in history, Jesus Christ, whether you believe he was a man or a god, his goal has yet to be achieved. How sad :(

Death of a Friend

The end of August marks a large painful milestone in my life, the death of a great friend David Derko. I was the last person to talk with him 2001 before he took his own life. Now nine years later the feelings still have not died, they are the same as they ever were. He and I knew each other at age 3 and shared many adventures together thru the many years we knew each other. For the dead, thier pain is over for the living it remains. See you buddy in about 40 years or so.

Reflexology, does it work?

Recently I chatted with a lady who said she did reflexology. After a nice chat she stated that a client that has pain in thier shoulders has that pain because they feel the weight of the world on them. As well pain on the left side of the body is fear of the future. My answer to this lady was simple..”bollocks!” Simple hypnosis training will tell you that you NEVER know why some one had a pain for what reason. The only way to determine it is to tap into the subconscious mind and find out. It is possible that some one with shoulder pain could feel the “weight of the world” on them? Yes, BUT it could be alot of other things as well, I think it is wrong to judge so hastily. I do not know this ladies level of training but if this is any indicator of the mentality of the average reflexologist, I will stick with thinking happy thoughts and be better off for it.

Disagreeing with Charles Adler

A couple of days ago, I commented on a couple of posts on facebook by Canadian radio talk show host Charles Adler. Mr. Adler is usually a man who shows everyone what is really important in the news and not just the main stream news. He does have comedic segments but it is obvious to the listener that he is being very tounge and cheek. He posted some non news on facebook, such as a pot bust near Stephen Harpers home in Calgary(would it have been posted if it had happened in another spot, doubt it) and a story of Julia Roberts practicing Buddism. I posted that this was just filler and his posts should show more substance. Some people posted back to disagree with me but atleast one other agreed with me. The next morning I find this “filler” post to be deleted and I am no longer one of Charles Adlers facebook friends. If the post was so important and not filler, he could of reposted it, that was not done. I think that my example of using a logical arguement with no profanity was a perfect way to show Mr Adler that his “journalistic integrity” of posting garbage on facebook should come to an end. The funny thing is, it did, he has not posted another garbage story since. He also showed his true colours, when faced with an intelligent opponent who shows him his error, he just cuts him/her off. Way to go Charles! You the man.

Mosquito Fest 2010

It would seem that here in the prairies of Canada were are “enjoying” Mosquito Fest 2010. In all the years I have been in Edmonton(most of my life) I have never seen the mosquito’s in such great numbers. There has been alot of rain, which made everything green but the bloodsuckers are out in force! I doubt there is a hypnotic solution except that I will think to do activities outdoors only when the sun is shining brightly and stay inside the rest of the time. Unless there is alot more rain the worst is over(I hope) but it will be awhile before you can go outside and not get swarmed. If you are going to donate blood, do it at Canadian Blood Services, not your local mosquito “bank” :)

Inquiring About A Hypnosis Show?

This time of year I get alot of inquiries about corporate shows for Christmas. Tis the time of the season. The main question is….how much? I cannot answer that question without asking alot of other questions about the event. To make the whole inquiry go smoother you should know a few things before you chat with me. How many people are attending? Where is the event taking place? Do you want some DJ music after the show? What is the age group attending? Do you have any special requests? When you as the buyer are armed with this information you can make better and quicker decisions about hiring me for you event. Oh btw..Do you want a “G” rated show? I sure hope so, I do not do the adult or X rated shows. I hope what ever form of entertainment you choose, your Christmas party is a success!

So Much to Know and Do

Today, as many other days are spent not on the road performing or making people laugh with stage hypnosis, but doing paperwork or learning how to use a new program on the computer. My challenge today was to buy, download, install and learn to use Microsoft Publisher. I had used an older version a long time ago, this was updated and time to relearn. I need to make templates for marketing materials that I could retrieve and print quickly. 4 hours passed and I finished. Tommorow, I am not sure if I will be on the computer most of the day..maybe the phone….and the wheel of my career keeps on turning :) It is not all applause and glamour but I enjoy almost all of the aspects that this odd business brings.

Being Original in Hypnosis Skits

I have seen many great hypnotists perform and a few not so great. What makes the great, great is their ability to customize a skit for thier needs. They do not see some one else and copy it word for word, they make it thiers! Some routines are tough to make really unique like hot/cold or forget a number but most others are easy to make personal for the hypnotist. So do your best to be unique and the benefits will be seen in the quality of your show :)

Strathmore Heritage Days

I had the pleasure of performing my stage hypnosis show at the Strathmore Heritage Days last Thursday. For those of you who do not know where Strathmore is, it’s about a 1/2 hour drive east of Calgary, Alberta. It was nice to have a big stage to perform on and this fair did not dissapoint. I filled up all the chairs I had and had a great show. Great volunteers. Next year will be even better, watch for me then :) If you are interested in more about events happening at the fair look at thier website http://www.strathmorerodeo.com/

Headlining in Las Vegas

Last Monday I had the pleasure of headlining at the Le Bistro Theatre in the Riviera Hotel. I was standing in for Dr. Scott Lewis who was away. I was very nervous, I have been in the entertainment industry for 10 years now, but getting on a Vegas stage was intimidating. For the first 30 seconds onstage I drew a big blank for memory power but slowly and surely I got into my groove and had a great time with a great audience! Thanks to all who were at that show, you all made my debut in Las Vegas something special. To Frank in Chicago, you my friend are one funny guy on stage!!

Myths About Hypnosis

During the past few years of doing my hypnotism shows, I’ve talked with a lot of people who had questions and concerns about hypnotism. I’m always happy to discuss hypnosis with others, and I actually think it’s an important part of my job.

Why?

Because there are so many widely spread myths about hypnotism that the average person doesn’t know the differences between hypnotism myths and facts. As a stage hypnotist, I feel compelled to explode these myths so my audiences can have the facts and feel more comfortable with hypnotism.

JayDee’s Celebrity Endorsements IV

In the world of entertainment, people use celebrities to endorse themselves. Some of these are true endorsements, some are not. You can write to most celebrities, ask for an autographed photo and they will send it (sometimes with a personalized message) at your request. For the average person, this is no big deal, but what happens when someone uses this to make money by bringing up their status with bogus endorsements? It does happen, another hypnotist I knew told me how it was done, I presume he did it due to the large numbers of celebrity endorsements he uses. So without further adieu… here are some JayDee Hypnotist celebrity endorsements, pictures NOT included.

Sociable?, not for you! – Anthony Cools

Can’t we all just get along and be nice to each other? – Alan Sands

Out of my way! – Lindsay Lohan

Our oil is REALLY clean…. – BP

There are many stage hypnotists…and you are one of them – Terrance B

Pass the salt – Miley Cyrus

Say what…….? – Puff Daddy

Your chocolate is in my peanut butter – Buzz Collins

Thanks for giving me my equipment back – Sidney Crosby

Do you like burrito’s too? – Kim Kardashian

You is interrupting my toe flossing session – Larry The Cable Guy

I said one free CD not 12! – John Cerbone

As usual, these endorsements can only make my career skyrocket!

Progressive Relaxation in Stage Hypnosis

Lately I have been hearing and reading alot of people in the stage hypnosis business talking about progressive relaxation. Some love, some hate it. Here is what should be the final word. In a show if you manage to put your volunteers into a deep trance in a reasonable amount of time without boring the audience does it matter how you do it? If I eat a banana over 5 minutes and all my volunteers go into trance is it wrong? Absolutely not! Do what works for you and your stage persona, if your audience likes it who cares what you do, a hypnotist is not out there to impress other hypnotists not watching the show. They are there to impress the audience! If the audience is impressed then who cares what any other hypnotist thinks. Do I use progressive relaxation, you bet I do, though it only takes up about 3-4 minutes of my induction. If you are boring your audience with your induction, change it, if you are keeping them entertained while you do it.. stick with it! Of course with any induction and stage show, make sure to keep your volunteers safe at all times, you will come across as the professional you are supposed to be!

Terrace BC and the 2010 Winter Games

This past weekend I had the pleasure of performing two shows for the athletes of the BC 2010 Winter games. I performed a in 700 seat theatre, with sound/lightning tech. I was also “given” two volunteers who shot still photo’s(posted on gallery page) and film via a camcorder and removed chairs from the stage. Both shows went well and I performed two very different shows. The total crowd for both nights was about 500+. My thanks to the organizers who hired me, everyone who was in the theatre helping to make my show as easy to perform as possible. Thanks as well to all the athletes who were very enthusiastic during the show. I had a great time :) For a review of the two shows click “here
